While the heart of Istanbul beats non-stop, a project is rising that brings new energy to the city: Sarıyer-Kilyos Tunnel. The tunnel, which is not only a transportation project but also a gateway to the future of Istanbul, will bring the two sides of Istanbul closer together as the northern extension of the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge.
The Kilyos Tunnel Project, which stands out as a transportation investment aiming to create a strong connection between the rapidly developing residential areas in the north of Istanbul and the city center, will provide direct integration to the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge and the Northern Ring Highway. It will not only relieve traffic on the Sarıyer-Kilyos line, but will also bring a permanent solution to Istanbul's transportation problems.

Istanbul Traffic
When the Kilyos Tunnel is completed, Istanbul traffic will take a deep breath. Transportation to Maslak, Levent and Sarıyer from settlements such as Kilyos, Demirciköy, Uskumruköy in the north of the city will be much easier and faster. The tunnel will reduce traffic density, shorten travel times, thus saving both time and fuel, and significantly increase travel comfort.
One of the most important features of the Kilyos Tunnel will be its direct connection to the Northern Ring Motorway. Thanks to this connection, transportation to Istanbul Airport will become much easier. The tunnel will create a critical connection point between the new development areas of Istanbul, the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge and the Northern Ring Motorway. This will facilitate access to Istanbul Airport and other strategic points. In addition, the tunnel will ease the traffic load on the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge and the 15 Temmuz Şehitler Bridge by making the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge more preferred for the Asia-Europe crossings. This will reduce waiting times in Istanbul traffic and prevent unnecessary fuel consumption.

The designation of the Northern Ring Motorway as an “Evacuation Road” increases the importance of the tunnel even more in order to ensure the safety of life and property in the event of a major earthquake.
The tunnel will provide fast access to the Northern Ring Motorway from densely populated areas and accelerate the access of rescue teams to the relevant areas in case of emergencies. Sarıyer district draws attention with the rapidly increasing number of housing units in recent years. This development brings with it the need for better and faster transportation solutions. In response to this need, the Kilyos Tunnel will enable approximately 350,000 residents of Sarıyer to reach the Northern Ring Motorway in just 5 minutes. Thus, both the quality of life in the region will improve and Sarıyer district will strengthen its connection with other regions of Istanbul.
An Environmentally Sensitive and
Sustainable Project
The Kilyos Tunnel Project was planned to minimize environmental impacts. Environmental factors were prioritized while determining the tunnel route and necessary approvals were obtained from all relevant official institutions for the environmental compliance of the project. Necessary measures have been taken and ensured to minimize negative environmental impacts within the scope of the project.
The tunnel, which establishes a strong connection between the northern regions of Istanbul and the center with its integration to the Northern Ring Motorway, will provide faster, safer and more comfortable transportation to every corner of Istanbul.
